As part of this years 28 April International Commemoration Day (ICD) for Dead and Injured Workers, the ITUC in conjunction with the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) will highlight the plight of workers who are exposed to cadmium poisoning when making batteries for Gold Peak Batteries International Limited, which is 53.4% owned by Gold Peak (Holdings) of Hong Kong. Brussels, 26 April 2007 (ITUC Online): Just days away from the 12th World Day for Health and Safety at Work, which sees the commemoration of the workers killed or injured at work over the last twelve months due to unsatisfactory production methods or working conditions, the ITUC has called for renewed pressure on the Gold Peak Batteries International Ltd (1) regarding the poisoning of workers with cadmium, which is a carcinogenic element. ITUC/GM: The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has launched an global campaign with the NGO “Globalization Monitor –GM” targeting the operation of three Chinese subsidiaries of Gold Peak Batteries International Limited in connection with the poisoning of workers by cadmium, a well-known carcinogen. This campaign, the first of its kind, is organized in the context of the 28 April International Commemoration Day (ICD)*
